Day Eighteen .. Stock Up
Yesterday was inventory, today we should be stocking our cupboards and refrigerators with healthy foods that will enhance our lives not deplete from it. As you visit the supermarket, be aware of where they place products. Along the walls are less processed items such as fruits, vegetables, breads, meat, chicken and fish. Within the store are the processed foods like cereals, canned foodstuff, packaged items and the like. Frozen foods are okay as they are freshly frozen and lose very little of their value in the process.
Pay more attention to labels. Manufacturers place both content and nutritional levels on the can or package. Be sensitive to sodium, as our daily intake far exceeds the daily recommended amounts. Fats are also an issue especially the saturated or trans fats that clog arteries and provide a haven for cardiovascular events. If cakes and the like have been on the shelf for a while be assured trans fats and other inflammatory chemicals have been used to preserve it. An occasional treat is okay, but if used as a daily food choice, not a good idea. So begin the process of replacing foods that may create havoc for those that will not. If finances allow, choose more wholesome foods from the “natural food” section hoping that the manufacturer are more aware of the processing keeping impurities and the like at a minimum.
